TOPMAN Trench Coat Project

The TOPMAN SS2010 Trench Coat Project is the UK brand's most recent collaborative project where they have asked 4 designers to give their own individual take on the classic trench coat. Topman Design will also provide their own version.

B Blessing
Sticking to the shape and form of the original trench coat.

Tim Soar
Very minimal and modern take. The simplicity is mirrored through a lack of pockets and a belt: common design features in a trench.
Topman Design
Very innovative and shows great play with proportion. It is also still functional, but illustrates a cleaner, more contemporary deisgn aesthetic. The assymetric opening and pocket works well.
Miharayasuhiro
Classic silhouette, but looser and more relaxed, especially in the choice of fabric.
Alister Mackie
Sticking to the classic details of the coat but shortening the length - creating a younger aesthetic perhaps?

It was useful to see the works of these designers and see how they have reinterpreted this classic style of coat. Because I am looking to design a collection that is largely focused on outerwear, and will no doubt feature a trench coat, it's helped me contextualise myself within the market.

For us humble Australians, the trench coat can be purchased online through Topman's website.

Some past collaborative projects include The TOPMAN Sunglasses Project and The White Tee Project.
